Nudity alert. A collection of girly clips, set to a nicely bombastic piece of music. This movie is made entirely from the vintage burlesque shorts available here at the PRELINGER ARCHIVES. Every shot involves nudity or near-nudity. Do not download this movie if you are a repressed, blue-nosed freak. The files I uploaded are the VCD-ready MPEG1 and the Quicktime .mov. The MPEG1 has the best picture and sound. The Quicktime is smaller, with swooshy audio-compression artifacts and barely... PANORAMA EPHEMERA (2004, 89:35 min., color and black and white) is a collage of sequences drawn from a wide variety of ephemeral (industrial, advertising, educational and amateur) films, touring the conflicted landscapes of twentieth-century America. The films' often-skewed visions construct an American history filled with horror and hope, unreeling in familiar and unexpected ways. PANORAMA EPHEMERA focuses on familiar and mythical activities and images in America (1626-1978). Many creatures... PLEASE LADY! Possibly NSFW due to strenuously harsh and barking public address. STOP! The snarling bed track is a totally dangerous off-balance groove crunching out of a Roland Juno-6, with the chords for the chorus, and sound effects for the bridge, laid in over that. WAIT! In 1979, some friends and I were messing around with a video camera in a slum area of town that had largely burned down and never been rebuilt. The video camera was old, with a heavy, over the shouder separate deck, obsolete even then. We saw some stuff flying around the buildings. At first we thought they were kites or maybe some radio controlled toy planes. We never did figure out what they were, but we got some of the stuff on video. The narrative is from a (now) public domain film of the same name made in 1950, about the development of microwave radio transmission and the transistor. What is lovely about viewing this now is the timelessness of the message contained within; the will to find newer, faster ways to communicate. "In my view of the future the novelty will wear off. The idea for this film was based on the late Terrence McKenna's suggestion that the fascination some have for exterestial beings is a projection of a primarily religious impulse towards yearning for the existance of benevolent forces, or beings, beyond the earthly realm. Music video by Cementimental. Original lo-fi animation was combined with clips from "Leave It to Roll-Oh", a public domain movie from the Prelinger Archive. Much of the raw footage was subjected to experimental 'data bending' techniques; the movie files were edited as raw text data, resulting in controlled corruption effects for a distressed sci-fi aesthetic. Other effects were created by misusing morphing software. The music was made from loops composed using the Game Boy Camera's...
